do with standard communications. This function allows hands-free use of
the device, although certain operational precautions must be taken:
1. Automatic switching requires a few moments for the device to switch
to transmission mode. Therefore, the initial segments of messages (in
the order of a few tenths of a second) may be “cut” and therefore not
perceptible to correspondents.
2. The VOX circuit is unable to distinguish ambient noise from the human
voice, despite being calibrated to switch only in the presence of
communications of comparable intensity. Therefore, it is not
recommended to use this function in particularly noisy or crowded
situations in order to minimise the possibility of undesired
transmissions, which, given the unidirectional nature of the
communication, would inhibit reception.
3. The device automatically ends communication if silence is detected
for approximately one second, after which it reverts back to reception
mode. Similar to the explanation provided in point 1, the initial
segments of incoming communications may be “cut” due to the
unidirectional nature of the transmission.
4. With regard to points 1 and 3, it is important to notify correspondents
that the VOX function is active, enabling them to consider any delays
during the conversation.

5.9 – TOT (Time Out Timer) Function
The device has a function allowing the transmission and emission of an
acoustic warning signal to be suspended if it persists for an excessive and
adjustable period of time. This helps to prevent failures due to overheating
of the power circuit, optimise the battery life and prevent a certain channel
from being used for too long. Cases of prolonged transmission may also
occur, not necessarily by the operator’s choice, if the VOX function is used
in a particularly noisy environment.
