confirms the switching off of the function by showing a
check mark on the display: from this moment the transmis-
sion will be devoid of sub-audio tone and cannot be
received by any correspondents who may have the
CTCSS function still active. To have a good command of
the CTCSS function, the following should be noted:
• A correspondent who activates the CTCSS function will
still be audible also from correspondents who have not
activated it, but not from those who have activated it by
selecting a different sub-audio tone.
• A correspondent who activates the CTCSS function will
not be able to receive communications from other
correspondents who have not in turn activated the same
function by selecting the same sub-audio tone. If the
channel is engaged with a communication without tone
or with a tone that does not correspond, the LED indica-
tion on the device will turn green, but no sound will be
emitted from the speaker.
• The activation or deactivation of the CTCSS function is
valid only for the selected channel, therefore it is
possible, by activating the function on different channels,
to assign a different tone to each channel.
• A channel on which the CTCSS function is active is
indicated on the display by the indication "CT" followed
by the channel number, while a channel on which this
function is deactivated is indicated by the indication "CH"
followed by the channel number.
Even during the transmission and reception phases, if a
channel on which the CTCSS function is active is
engaged, the indications on the display will be accompa-
nied by the wording "CT". It is therefore immediately
understandable which channels are active on this function
compared to those on which it is not active.
• The presence in the immediate vicinity of an operator who
is transmitting on the same channel, but using a different
CTCSS tone, could make reception difficult, since the
emission of the tone could be affected by the relative
interference. It should however be considered that, even
in the absence of sub-audio tone, interference between
operators belonging to different groups and operating on
the same channel is often a reason for communication
difficulties. In these cases the best thing to do is always
to look for a more "free" channel.
The following table illustrates the selectable sub-audio
tones, according to an international standard that allows
you to use this function even with different devices,
provided they have the same function (the values are
expressed in Hertz):
