function is the sum of the maximum signal runtimes (worst case delay times) of all

PROFIsafe devices in PROFINET systems 1 and 2 involved in safety function SF

These times are used as the basis for determining the monitoring times to be set for each

individual PROFIsafe device involved in the safety function with an input or output function

(watchdog times: F_WD_Time IN/F_WD_Time OUT).

Once you have determined the upper and lower limits of the monitoring times, allowing for

the safety function to be observed and system availability, specify the actual monitoring

times that are to be set. Set these values in the programming software for each PROFIsafe

device involved in the safety function.

DAT The relevant processing time/cycle time of the PROFIsafe protocol in the safe PROFINET

gateway for calculating the response times, “DAT”, is 5 ms.

The F-Device Acknowledge Time (“DAT”) must be taken into consideration for each side of

the safe PROFINET gateway when determining the monitoring times.

Please note that safety chains a and b in the machine/system usually include different

safety functions. This typically results in different total response times for both safety

chains, which must be considered separately.
