5.8.3 AC safety equipment and selectivity

WARNING: Risk of fire from incorrect connection of the system to an unpro-

tected circuit

To reduce the risk of fire, only connect the High Power Charging system to a circuit

with fuse.

Design the maximum overcurrent protection of the branch line in accordance with

“Recommended conductor cross-sections, mains input” on page 53. It has to comply

with the National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA 70 and the Canadian Electrical Code,

Part I, C22.1.

Observe the selectivity when designing the input and output fuses. To ensure correct

selectivity in case of a short circuit, carefully select the fuse values.

Observe the following for the distribution the system is integrated in: In case of a short cir-

cuit, the fuse directly upstream has to blow first. The fuses installed further upstream have

to remain unaffected (selectivity). This way, power supply for other branch lines is main-

tained.
