5.8.4 Recommended conductor cross-sections, mains input

WARNING: Risk of fire from wrong cross section

The following table only provides an overview of the current carrying capacity for in-

stallation type C/30°C. The actual cross sections and fuses have to be selected with

regard to ambient temperature, number of cables and cable lengths, and according to

local regulations.

WARNING: Risk of fire from wrong conductor cross-section

Specify the minimum cross section in accordance with EN 62040-1 and

EN 60950-1, Table 3b.

Select the conductor cross-section depending on the following factors:

– The fuse externally connected upstream of the cabinets

– The installation method in accordance with IEC 60364-5-52 and VDE 0100-520,

Observe the local and country-specific requirements.

NOTE: Incorrect dimensioning of the mains supply

If 4-pos. disconnect elements are used to protect the system, observe the following.

In situations with non-linear consumers and high harmonic content, the neutral con-

ductor current can be larger than the phase current.

Please note:

– For operating the system, using a neutral conductor at the input is mandatory.

– Observe all local or national regulations for electrical installations. These may be coun-

try-specific.

– The conductor cross-section should be dimensioned in such a way that, with the cable

length used, the ohmic voltage drop is limited to <1%.

– All incoming and outgoing cables have to withstand at least 75°C.

– Select the cross section of the AC mains cable so that line losses are as low as possible

(maximum possible cross section at minimum cable length).

– Overcurrent protection has to be provided at the AC input.

– Observe the following tables for correct dimensioning of fuses and cable cross-sec-

tions for the mains connection and consumer connection.

– Prior to connection, make sure that the mains input voltage and the mains frequency

correspond to the rating plate.
