use. Coffee beans stored in an airtight container will keep up to 4
weeks before they begin to lose their flavor.
BEAN GRINDING TIPS
This is a vital step in the espresso making process and takes
practice. The coffee must be of a fine grind.
1. The correct grind should look like salt.
2. If the grind is too fine, the water will not flow through the coffee
even under pressure. These grinds look like powder and feel
like flour when rubbed between fingers.
3. If the grind is too coarse, the water flows through the coffee
too fast, preventing a full-flavored extraction. Be sure to use a
quality grinder for uniform consistency. Burr or Conical grinders
are recommended for best results. NOTE: Preground coffee that
has been ground specifically for espresso can be used in this
machine. For best results, only use high-quality espresso-ground
coffee.
BEFORE BREWING YOUR FIRST ESPRESSO
1. Make sure the unit is off by pressing the on/off “ ” button
located on the unit. Make sure it is unplugged from the
electrical outlet.
2. First, peel off the sticker attached to the water reservoir to
detach it from the unit, then remove the red plug from the
bottom. Once removed, wash the water reservoir and lid,
portafilter, filters, measuring scoop/tamper and drip tray in a
mixture of mild detergent and water. NOTE: Do not immerse
the appliance in the water or attempt to reach any of its internal
parts.
3. To prime the machine before first use, refer to the next section
"PRIME THE MACHINE".
PRIME THE MACHINE
To prime the pump before the initial brew, run brewing cycle for 30
seconds following the steps below:
1. Add water to the water reservoir. NOTE: Remove the plug at
the bottom of the reservoir before attaching it to the unit.
2. Press the on “ ” button, make sure steam intensity dial is fully
clockwise to the min intensity position.
3. Wait for the light on the on/off button “ ” to turn on steadily.
Place a cup underneath the brew head and double press the
espresso brew button “ . (Some water and/or steam may
release during process).
HOW TO BREW ESPRESSO
PREPARATION: Gather the following prior to brewing
Fine espresso ground coffee
Tap water (or, preferably your favorite bottled water)
An espresso cup or mug
1. Make sure the on/off button “ ” light is off.
2. Fill the reservoir with water. You may either use bottled water
or a pitcher to fill it up or remove it from the unit and then fill it
up under the tap. If you have removed it from the unit to fill up
with water, please make sure to place it back tightly in its place,
aligning the grooves on the reservoir with the lock tabs on the
back of the unit to ensure there are no gaps. Fill the reservoir
with the desired amount of water ensuring it ranges within the
“Min” and “Max” markings on the tank. Never use warm or hot
water to fill the water reservoir.
3. Close the water reservoir lid.
PREPARING ESPRESSO
1. Place the filter in the portafilter. Select from the two filters that
come with your unit depending on the amount of cups you wish
to prepare (1 or 2 espresso cups). The recommended recipe is
to use the small 1 cup filter to make a single (1oz / 30mL) shot
of espresso. The large 2 cup filter can be used for a double (2oz
/ 60mL) shot. To insert the filter:
a. To insert the selected filter in the portafilter, make sure
to align the notch on the filter with the groove inside the
portafilter.
b. Turn the filter to the left or right to lock in place. This will
help secure the filter in the portafilter.
NOTE: To remove and clean the filter, turn filter to the left or right to
align the filter notch with the groove inside the portafilter.
WARNING: Make sure the portafilter has cooled before attempting
to remove the filter.
