LEARNING ABOUT YOUR APPLIANCE
CAUTION
Please follow these important safety instructions while using your
Mr. Coffee® Compact Espresso Maker:
1. Before removing any of the parts and accesories, please make
sure the unit is off by pressing the on/off “ ” button located on
the unit. Make sure it is unplugged from the electrical outlet.
2. Before brewing, ensure that the portafilter is firmly attached to
the brew head by turning the handle all the way to the right so
that it aligns with the locked symbol “ ”. This symbol indicates
that the portafilter is securely in place and ready for brewing.
Do not remove the portafilter at any time during the brewing
process.
3. Use caution when removing the portafilter. The metal parts may
still be very hot. Also, there may be hot water floating on the top
of the filter. Hold it only by its handle and dispose the brewed
coffee grounds.
4. If coffee does not drip, the filter might be blocked. Turn off
the appliance and allow it to cool down. The blockage may be
caused by the coffee being too finely ground. See “PROBLEMS
AND CAUSES” section.
5. WHEN CLEANING THE STEAM WAND: Place a frothing pitcher
or mug (with at least 11-ounce capacity) half full of water
under the steam wand. Make sure the tip of the steam wand
is submerged in liquid before pressing the steam “ ” button.
Froth the water for approximately 15 seconds then wipe clean
the steam wand and tip.
6. For drinks that require a larger cup, we recommend using a
wider cup that is not too tall. If the cup you are using is too tall
and does not fit under the portafilter on the Mr. Coffee Compact
Espresso Maker, you can remove the drip tray to have more
space while preparing your drink. Once you have finished
brewing, you can remove the cup and put back the drip tray.
NOTE: In order for your unit to work properly time after time, clean
the steam wand and tip after each use.

COFFEE TIPS
The coffee should be freshly ground and dark roasted. You may
want to try a French or Italian roast. Pre-ground coffee will only
retain its flavor for 7 – 8 days, provided it is stored in an airtight
container and in a cool, dark area. Do not store in a refrigerator or
freezer. Whole beans are recommended to be ground just before
