Audio connections
Input connections
The audio input can be analogue, AES or Dante.
▪ For analogue, there are four female XLR connectors,
one for each input channel.
▪ For AES, there is one female XLR for one stream of two
channel AES3 digital audio. You can route the two AES
channels to input channels A and B (page 20).
▪ For Dante, there are two RJ45 connectors, one primary
and one secondary. You can route four Dante channels
to input channels A, B, C and D (page 20). Note that
for the iK81, you can route another four channels
direct to output DSP using Vu-Net (page 36). This
means that for the iK81, you can use eight channels
of Dante.
Analogue audio connection
For analogue audio, we recommend that you use a
balanced connection:
▪ HOT, + or ‘in phase’ connected to pin 2 of the XLR
connector.
▪ COLD, – or ‘out of phase’ connected to pin 3 of the
XLR connector.
▪ The chassis and cable shield connected to pin 1 of the
XLR connector. This connection is required for EMC
performance and regulations.
We don't recommend an unbalanced connection, but if
you do need to do this, connect as follows:
▪ Signal conductor connected to pin 2 of the XLR
connector.
▪ COLD or cable screen connected to pin 1 of the XLR
connector with a short connection between pin 1 and
pin 3.
Output connections
The iK41, iK42 and iK81 amplifiers have four speakON
connectors for audio output.
▪ For the iK41 and iK42, there is one connector for each
channel. The connectors are labelled 1, 2, 3 and 4 on
the back panel (page 11).
▪ For the iK81, there is one connector for each pair of
channels. The connectors are labelled 1&2, 3&4, 5&6
and 7&8 on the back panel (page 11). Connection 1&2
is for channels 1 and 2, connection 3&4 is for channels
3 and 4 and so on.
Note that you can connect more than one speaker to
each channel provided the total impedance per channel is
2ohms or more. In
bridged mode (page 26) the minimum
total impedance is 4ohms.
The iK41 and iK42 have one connector for each amplifier
channel. You connect the loudspeaker to terminals 1+
and 1– as shown below:
Alternatively, for the iK41 and iK42, you can use bi-amp
wiring with connectors 1 and 3. This is because:
▪ Channel 2 output is duplicated on terminals 2+ and 2–
of connection 1.
