6 Installation
6.1 Types of mounting
The following table indicates the transferable measuring range of 3 different types of mounting.
Type of mounting Frequency range
Screw connection up to approx. 15 kHz
Direct gluing up to approx. 8 kHz
Magnet up to approx. 3 kHz
6.2 Screws
u Fasten the device to the machine surface using the M5 mounting screw supplied.
u If necessary, use a 10-32x1" UNF screw (accessories → documentation.ifm.com).
u Increase the rigidity of the connection by means of a screw retaining compound.
The supplied screw is pre-coated with a screw retaining compound. This screw retaining
compound will become ineffective if the screw is unscrewed again.
u Only mount the sensor in a solid housing wall / machine component without elastic intermediate
layers.
The device detects the measurement in three axes, therefore takes into account the mechanical
alignment in the respective application. The measurement axes of the sensor are marked on the
sensor housing.
u Ensure reliable vibration transmission (paint-free, clean and smooth contact surfaces) and do not
allow any elastic intermediate layers (e.g. protective plates).
Adapters of any kind have an impact on the vibration measurement. The mass, shape and stiffness of
the adapter have an influence on the frequency response of the entire system. Both resonances and
damping effects may occur in different frequency ranges.
For this reason, screw mounting is always preferable.

u For all installation types, tighten the sensor with the tightening torque indicated in the data sheet.
u Tighten the device with a tightening torque of 4.6 Nm.
If the torque is too low, the coupling between the sensor and the machine may be too weak.
Excessive torque can damage the sensor and the screw.
To measure the process value temperature, a safe mechanical connection of the sensor must
be ensured.
u Ensure correct, direct installation.
u Optionally, apply technical Vaseline / lubricating grease to the contact points.
6.3 Gluing
Gluing is suitable for temporary measurements or if the surface is not suitable for a screw connection.
u Use an adhesive adapter so that the sensor can be replaced.
u Fix the sensor to the adhesive adapter.
u Fix the adapter/sensor unit to the machine according to the instructions of the glue used.
