9.2.15 Acyclic access
The device supports the following mailbox protocols for acyclic read and write access to the objects in
the object directory:
• Using CANopen over EtherCAT (CoE) (Ò/40)
• Using ADS over EtherCAT (AoE) (Ò/40)
9.2.15.1 Using CANopen over EtherCAT (CoE)
The device supports the mailbox protocol “CANopen over EtherCAT” (CoE). CoE allows acyclic read
or write access to objects on the device.
Only 1 acyclic read/write access can be executed at a time.

Example: reading the manufacturer ID via CoE
Task: read the manufacturer ID of the device in TwinCAT via CoE
Solution: In TwinCAT via the [CoE – Online] view in [Identity Object] (index: 0x1018), read the value
for [Vendor ID] (subindex: 0x01)
Requirements:
ü The connection to the device is established (online).
u In the [Solution Explorer]: Double-click on the device node.
w A detailed view of the device appears.
u Select the [CoE – Online] tab.
w The object directory of the device appears.
u Select object 0x1018:01 from the table.
w The [Value] column displays the value of the object: 0x00000622 (= ifm electronic)
9.2.15.2 Using ADS over EtherCAT (AoE)
The device supports the ”ADS over EtherCAT” (AoE) protocol. AoE allows uninterrupted acyclic read
and write access to objects on the device.
Multiple acyclic AoE requests can be executed at the same time.

• bits 16...31: index
