9.2.7 Configuring the counter modules
u Observe the notes on counter modules: Counter (Ò/10)
If the operating mode of a counter module is changed, the current counter values will be reset
and any active events will be deleted.
The properties of the enabled counter modules can be configured.
Each counter module can be configured separately.
The following table shows the valid combinations of the parameters [Pin 2 function] and [Count
direction selection] () for each counter operating mode: valid setting; : invalid setting):

For the parameters [Pin 2 function] and [Count direction selection] all parameter values can be
selected. The validity of the set value combinations is not checked.
u Make sure that only valid value combinations are set.
Counting pulses are also processed by the main counter and the batch counter while the device
is in the INIT EtherCAT state.
u When creating the application, ensure that the counter readings have the desired initial
values.
In the CTDIR operating mode with set counting instance IoT / PLC Count Direction, the counting
direction can only be set via the output process data (RxPDO) in the OPERATIONAL state.
Counting pulses are already processed by the main counter while the device is in the SAFE-
OPERATIONAL EtherCAT state.
u When creating the application, ensure that the counting pulses are processed by the main
counter in the desired counting direction.
The parameters are set via the object area Configuration area (0x8000 - 0x8FFF) (Ò/57).
