include damage to cables, excessive number of connections,
terminals not conforming to original specifications, damage to seals,
incorrect assembly of cable glands, etc.
Make sure that the appliance is securely fastened.
Ensure that seals or sealing materials are not so degraded that they
can no longer prevent the ingress of flammable atmospheres. Spare
parts must comply with the manufacturer's specifications.
Repair of intrinsically safe components
Do not apply permanent inductive or capacitive loads to the circuit
without ensuring that they do not exceed the permitted voltage and
current for the equipment used.
Intrinsically safe components are the only types of component that
can be worked on under voltage in the presence of a flammable
atmosphere. The test equipment must be of an appropriate rating.
Replace components only with parts specified by the manufacturer.
Other parts may cause refrigerant to ignite in the atmosphere in the
event of a leak.
Wiring
Check that the cabling will not be subjected to wear, corrosion,
excessive pressure, vibration, sharp edges or any other adverse
environmental effects. The check should also take into account the
effects of ageing or continuous vibration from sources such as
compressors or fans.
Detection of flammable refrigerants
Under no circumstances should potential sources of ignition be used
to search for or detect refrigerant leaks. A halide torch (or any other
detector using an open flame) must not be used.
