Special safety instructions
ALWAYS read the instructions before use and observe all warnings.
ALWAYS check the plasterboard lifter each day before use, paying
particular attention to the condition of the cable.
ALWAYS wait until the plasterboard jack has reached room
temperature before using it. Moving the lifter from a cold room to a
warm room can cause condensation, which can affect the operation
of the brake!
Check that the brake drum is clean and dry before use.
NEVER use the drywall lifter unless both arms are secured with a
latch.
ALWAYS keep the work area clear of obstructions.
ALWAYS wear a helmet when using a plasterboard lift.
ALWAYS be aware of obstacles above the lifter when lifting panels.
NEVER use a plasterboard lifter to lift objects other than
plasterboard and similar.
NEVER lift more than 68 kg.
Assembly
Parts
The plasterboard lifter is supplied in parts, which must be assembled
before use:
Base
Frame containing hoist and 120 cm long telescopic sections.
Basket without removable support arms.
Two support arms.
Assembly instructions
1. Position the base
Place the base on the floor so that it rests on the castors.
Press the locking ring downwards.
Hold the locking ring while tilting the two front legs so that the locking ring
snaps into the hole in the bottom tube.
To prevent the base from moving backwards during assembly, lower the
reverse brake down as shown (figure 1).
2. Place the frame on the two 'V' brackets on the base and lower the
frame by approximately 2.5 cm until it sits firmly in the brackets. Make
sure the frame is fully lowered and firmly seated in the angles before
continuing.
3. Attach the handle to the hand wheel of the hoist. Tighten the nut and
then loosen it slightly so that the handwheel rotates freely.
4. Move the hoist to the operating position: hold the handwheel and
brake lever as shown in figure 2.
Rotate the handwheel slightly forward, lifting the brake lever to
release the brake. Lift the brake lever upwards. Grasp the strut by
the hoist and hold the brake lever with your thumb (figure 3).
Place your right hand on top of the frame. Hold the brake lever to
prevent the cable from retracting and pull the hoist towards you
(figure 4).
When the hoist is fully extended (from the frame), release the brake
lever and move the locking hook away so that it does not hold the
telescopic sections inside the frame.
5. Gently push the hoist towards the frame. This will enable the locking
arm to lock into the hoist and hold it in the fully extended position
(figure 5).
IMPORTANT: Before continuing, make sure that the locking arm is
correctly locked, i.e. rotated as far as possible to the right.
WARNING! To avoid an accident, the locking arm must be fully
locked when the lift is extended.
6. Attach the cradle to the frame (figure 6).
a. Insert the cradle strut into the hole in the top of the frame.
b. Attach the cradle to the frame by pushing the clamp up over the
locking pin so that it clamps the cradle.
7. Attach the support arms to the cradle.
NOTE: The support arms are identical.
a. Press the tapered plates on the support arms into the tapered
sockets on the cradle (figure 7).
b. Push both support arms into the sockets until the locking latch at
the bottom of each support arm engages (figure 8).
Working parts
Locking ring
Press the locking ring down to release the two front legs so that they can
be rotated to the working position or to the rest position. The spring-
loaded latch interlocks with the hole in the bottom of the tube, locking the
position of the legs (Figure 9).
Reversing brake
Swing the reverse brake downwards to prevent the base from moving
backwards, or swing it upwards to allow free movement.
Outriggers
The outriggers on the support arms can be extended to allow the drywall
jack to hold a larger cover board. Pull the locking pin with the right hand
and extend the outrigger with the left hand. The locking pin can secure
the jib in one of three positions: folded or extended by 53 or 84 cm (figure
10).
IMPORTANT: Never load the cover plate onto the cradle or use the
lift if the locking pins are not locked in one of these three positions
or if the outriggers have been extended more than 84 cm.
To avoid damage to the outriggers, they must be fully retracted before
transporting or storing the plasterboard jack.
Board support hooks
Swivel the support hooks on each support arm to support the cover board
when placed on the cradle or when the cradle is tilted (Figure 11).
To avoid damaging the support hooks, push them fully in before
transporting or storing the drywall lifter.
Locking arm (figure 12)
The locking arm holds the jack in the working position (fully extended).
To fold the jack into the frame (when dismantling or transporting), rotate
the jack counterclockwise by lifting the locking arm.
When reassembling the drywall jack, pull the jack all the way out and
then push it back slightly so that it automatically locks into the locking
arm.
Never tighten the nut on the locking arm as this will prevent the jack from
folding down for transport and storage.
Tilt latch
Swing the latch outwards and downwards to tilt the cradle (to fix cover
plates or lift cover plates on sloping walls or ceilings) or to remove the
cradle. The cradle can be fixed to the frame without tilting by tilting the
latch upwards so that it locks into the locking pin on the cradle (Figure
13).
Note: When the cradle is in the horizontal position (not tilted), it can tilt
upwards by +/- 10 degrees.
Brake lever
The spring-loaded brake holds the cradle securely at the required height
by locking the handwheel of the hoist. When lowering the cradle, control
the rotation of the hoist by holding the handwheel and carefully lifting the
brake lever to release the brake (figure 14).
Handwheel, handle and strut
As the handwheel of the hoist is turned, the cable retracts or unwinds,
raising or lowering the basket.
When turning the handwheel, hold the strut to provide resistance (figure
15).
Locking hook
The locking hook secures the telescopic sections inside the frame during
transport and storage (figure 16).
Use
IMPORTANT: Before using the drywall lifter, read the "Special
safety instructions" section.
WARNING! ALWAYS wear a helmet when using the plasterboard
lifter.
WARNING! Use the plasterboard lifter only for lifting cover boards.
Lift only one board at a time!
Safety check before use
Perform the following checks each working day before using the
plasterboard lifter:
Carefully inspect the plasterboard lifter for wear and damage. Pay
particular attention to the condition of the cable.
Ensure that the plasterboard lifter has reached room temperature
before use.
Check that the brake drum is clean and dry.
Loading the cover board (figure 17)
1. Swing the reverse brake down so that the plasterboard lifter does
not roll backwards.
2. Swing back the support hooks on the support arms. Ensure that the
cradle is rotated so that the support hooks are as far away from the
handwheel as possible. Pull out the outriggers on the support arms
to ensure optimum support of the cover plates.
3. Release the latch so that the cradle can tilt.
4. Hold the cover plate with the cradle tilted, outer side facing down.
Lower the cover plate onto the cantilever hooks and carefully rest it
against the cantilever arms.
5. If the cover plate is to be mounted on a flat ceiling, tilt the cradle to a
horizontal position and tighten the clamp so that the cradle does not
tilt. If the cover plate is to be mounted on a sloping wall or sloping
ceiling, the cradle should remain tilted.
6. Lift the return brake on the base and carefully roll the drywall hoist to
the location where the cover board is to be installed.
