6.4 Device security against undesired changes
6.4.1 Changing the login password
The parameters available on the user terminal may vary depending on the access profi le. The user parameters (“U”) are visible
without a password, if set to the default value 00, and represent a basic set of modifi able parameters; the service parameters (“S”)
on the other hand can be accessed on entering the service password, set by default to 22, from the user terminal.
In order to avoid undesired changes to the parameters by third parties, the user and service passwords should be changed.
This change can be made by accessing the parameter list directly from APPLICA mobile or desktop.
Specifi cally:
• Parameter PDS changes the service password (S) and can be set in the range from 0 to 999
• Parameter PDU changes the user password (U) and can be set in the range from 0 to 999
If the user password is changed from the default value 0, when the PSd password prompt is shown, the login profi le needs to
be selected, specifi cally:
• “USr” to log in with the user profi le by entering the password set for PDU
• “Sru” to log in with the service profi le by entering the password set for PDS

Fig. 6.i
A factory reset via parameter “rSC” resets the service and user passwords to the default values.
Caution: if the service password is changed from the default value 22 and the new password is then forgotten, follow the
procedure described in “Resetting the service password to the default value”.
To access the device via the APPLICA mobile or desktop app, the service password needs to be entered. Changing the value of
parameter PDS changes the password to be entered when connecting to the device via these apps.
To access the device via the CONTROLLA mobile app, the user password needs to be entered. Changing the value of parameter
PDU changes the password to be entered when connecting to the device via this app.
6.4.2 Restrictions on access for setting the parameters
In order to avoid undesired changes to the parameters by third parties, it is strongly recommended to restrict access to the
parameters after the device has been commissioned. This recommendation applies particularly to the NFC and Bluetooth
connections. In fact, these do not need to be near the device for an extended time and thus can expose it to malicious
attacks.
Parameter /nE can be used enable or disable navigation via the user terminal; in particular, the following values can be set:
0 = navigation via user terminal enabled (default value)
1 = navigation via user terminal disabled;
2 = ON/OFF button disabled
3 = ON/OFF and set point modifi cation buttons disabled
Due to its operating characteristics, the NFC memory is always active; parameter nFE can be set to ensure that any NFC memory
writes are ignored by the controller; in particular, the following values can be set:
0 = copy parameters via NFC disabled
1 = copy parameters via NFC enabled (default value)
Parameter BtE can be used to disable Bluetooth™ communication, if available as a hardware option; in particular, the following
values can be set:
0 = Bluetooth™ communication disabled
1 = Bluetooth™ communication enabled (default value)
