up blue. The device is equipped with a squelch circuit allowing the
background noise typical of FM mode communication to be silenced. This
silencing circuit could obscure particularly weak signals, especially if
transmitted from great distances. To allow reception of these signals too,
see the “Monitor function” chapter later in the manual.
If there are no communications on the channel, the radio will be completely
muted. The presence of any nearby brushed motors, radio or television or
telephone transmitters or other sources of radio-electrical interference
could generate disturbances perceptible through the speaker. This situation
is consistent with the nature of the product and does not constitute a
malfunction or fault.
5.5 – Transmission
To transmit, place the device 5 cm away from the face, press the PTT button
(g. in chap. 3) and speak with a conversational tone of voice. The signal will
be transmitted over the selected channel, the LED indicator (g. p. 8 no. 4)
will light up red, and a bar will appear on the display similar to that during
reception, but with only three segments. Release the PTT button at the end
of the communication. The device immediately switches to receiver mode
and reproduces via the speaker any communications made by other
operators on the same channel, provided they are within the working range
of the device.
During transmission, reception is inhibited. It is advisable not to exceed one
minute of consecutive transmission as the device could overheat and the
battery life could be signicantly reduced.
5.6 – Squelch and Monitor function
The device is specically designed to silence background noise typical of FM
mode transmission, which can be irritating when no communication is
taking place. The background noise silencing circuit (squelch) may cause
very weak signals to be partially received or diicult to understand. This can
