Install Hardware Options
This section assists you installing common printer connectivity modules and media handling options.
IMPORTANT: To simplify and speed up the setup process, install all connectivity modules and media
handling options before setting up and using your printer for the first time.
IMPORTANT: It is strongly recommended that you update your printer’s firmware after the printer has
completed the setup process. Many of these options have internal firmware that require an update to
operate properly with the printer’s Main Logic Board’s installed firmware version.
Field Installable printer Accessories and Options
Printer Connectivity Modules
The connectivity module’s access door must be removed prior to installing the following options —
Accessing the Connectivity Module Slot on page 49.
• Wireless Connectivity Module — go to Installing the Wireless Connectivity Module on page 53.
• Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, BTLE 5, and MFi 3.0
• ZD421 Serial Port — go to Installing the Serial Port Module on page 50
• RS-232 DB-9 connector with DTE/DTC auto-switching — go to Serial Port Interface on page 306
• ZD421 Internal Ethernet (LAN - wired) — go to Installing the Internal Ethernet (LAN) Module on
page 51
• RJ-45 connector
• Ethernet 10/100 auto-switching, 10Base-T, and 100Base-TX networks.
Media Handling Options
The printer’s standard bezel must be removed prior to installing the following options — go to Removing
the Standard Bezel on page 56.
• Label Dispenser (Peel-Off Liner and Present Label for Operator) — go to Installing the Label
Dispenser on page 57.
• General Purpose Media Cutter — go to Installing the Standard Media Cutter on page 58.
• Media Roll Adapters for 38.1 mm (1.5 in.), 50.8 mm (2.0 in.), or 76.2 mm (3.0 in.) I.D. media cores -
go to Media Roll Core Size Adapters on page 59.
• Fan-Fold Media Access Cover for thermal transfer printers.
