INSTALLATION
Mounting
The VL590 message display should be mounted
with appropriate hardware (not included) for the
structure to which it is attached. Use only
hardware suitable for intended environmental
exposure. All building codes and requirements
must be followed. It is recommended to attach
the mounting base into wall studs. (Figure 2)
Precautions
• Mounting height should not be less than 10
feet.
• Make sure the mounting method can
support 5 times the product weight.
• This device should not be installed beyond
the building perimeter without adequate
protection, such as lightning transient
protection.
• Permanently discontinue power to this
device if damaged in any way.
• All power to the device must be
disconnected during installation or
maintenance, with branch service breakers
open.
CONNECTIONS
Network Connection / Power
The VL590 has one RJ-45 network connector.
Connect a standard patch cable to the VL590
from an Ethernet switch supporting the Power
over Ethernet Plus specification 802.3at (PoE+).
If a PoE+ switch is not available, a mid-span
injector may be used to supply power to the
display, or an optional Valcom 24 Vdc power
adapter may be connected to the barrel
connector on the circuit board (see Figure 1).
If using external power, the recommended
power supply is a VP-2124D.
Switch Connections
The VL590 provides two Switch inputs via screw
terminal connections labeled Switch 1 and
Switch 2 (See Figure 1). Actions related to the
switch activation are programmed into the
VL590 using the VIP-102B Setup tool. If the
Countdown function is required, use the
VE2979 Count Up/Down Timer Control on
Switch 2 only.
Relay Connection
One relay output is provided through three
screw terminals labeled Normally Open (NO)
and Normally Closed (NC). The center screw
terminal is common to both NO and NC. The
relay contacts are rated 1 amp @ 24 Vdc.
Line Out Connection
The Line Out connection provides line level
output sufficient to drive up to 40 Valcom
self-amplified speakers.

9. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized plug
has two blades with one wider than the other. A grounding type plug has two blades and a
third grounding prong. The wide blade and the third prong are provided for your safety. If
the provided plug does not fit into your outlet consult an electrician for replacement of the
obsolete outlet.

10.Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched particularly at plugs, convenience
receptacles and the point where they exit from the apparatus.
11.Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.

12. Use only with the cart, stand, tripod, bracket or table specified
by the manufacturer or sold with the apparatus. When a cart is
used, use caution when moving the cart/apparatus combination
to avoid injury from tip-over.

13. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for a long period of time.

14. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the
apparatus has been damaged in any way. Such as when the power supply cord or plug is
damaged, liquid has been spilled, objects have fallen into the apparatus or the
apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture and does not operate normally or has
been dropped.
