Where’s the
foam?
YOU WILL NEED
→ test tube
→ measuring spoon
→ sodium carbonate
→ tartaric acid
→ cup of water
HERE’S HOW
1. In a dry test tube, mix 1 large spoonful
of sodium carbonate with 1 large
spoonful of tartaric acid.
Is anything happening yet?
2. Then add about 1 cm of water to the
mixture.
What do you see now?
In a mixture of fine, dry sodium
carbonate and tartaric acid
crystals, nothing happens. The
mixture only starts to foam once
you add water.
