2.5 Installing the Processor and Heatsink

Cautions:

• When handling the processor (CPU) package, avoid placing direct pressure on the label

area of the CPU or CPU socket.

• Improper CPU installation or socket misalignment can cause serious damage to the CPU

or motherboard which may result in RMA repairs.

• Take all standard precautions to avoid electrostatic discharge (ESD) which can damage

components.

Assemble the processor (CPU) and heatsink together rst then install that assembly onto

the CPU socket.

Notes:

• The motherboard should be installed into the chassis rst and the processor should be

installed into the CPU socket before you install a CPU heatsink.

• If you bought a CPU separately, use a certied multi-directional heatsink only.

• When receiving a motherboard without a processor pre-installed, make sure that the plastic

CPU socket cap is in place and none of the socket pins are bent; otherwise, contact your

retailer immediately.
