5.2.10.5 Bus couplers that support the operation of intrinsically safe I/O terminals

Not all bus couplers support the operation of intrinsically safe I/O terminals.

Table 5-6 shows which bus couplers can be used in combination with intrinsically safe

I/O terminals.

Bus couplers marked with a “

” comply with directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX).

Install these bus couplers in the safe area or in Zone 2 potentially explosive areas.

Bus couplers not listed do not support intrinsically safe I/O terminals.

Install these bus couplers in the safe area only.

Before using your bus coupler, check whether it is suitable for use in Zone 2 poten-

tially explosive areas. Conformity is explained in the CE Declaration of Conformity.

In addition, the bus coupler is marked accordingly.

For an overview of all Inline terminals for use in Zone 2 potentially explosive areas,

please refer to the AH DE IL EX ZONE 2 application note.

Date in the “Production without ATEX-relevant identification as of” column:

Items manufactured until 2017 or the start of 2023 comply with directive

2014/34/EU (ATEX).

You may use these items in potentially explosive areas of category 3.

Items manufactured afterwards do not meet the requirements of directive

2014/34/EU.

Use in potentially explosive areas of category 3 is not permitted.

• Do not include these items in plans for new installations.

• If you wish to replace an item, check that the new item has the appropriate ap-

proval.

• If you use an item with ATEX-relevant printing in a potentially explosive area,

please observe the associated documentation.

If the item used by you does not feature ATEX-relevant identification, use in po-

tentially explosive areas is not permitted.
