6.4 Updating the device firmware

The non-safety-related firmware of the device (integrated software on the FL PN/PN SDIO-

2TX/2TX) can be updated via the connected Ethernet network.

Such non-safety-related firmware updates are exclusively used for adding new functions

that are implemented in the non-safety-related firmware of the FL PN/PN SDIO-2TX/2TX

within the scope of continuous product improvement.

No non-safety-related firmware update is required for normal system operation.

NOTE: Potential device malfunction

Do not interrupt the FL PN/PN SDIO-2TX/2TX supply voltage during the firmware update

process. Interruption of the supply voltage can result in a malfunction on the

FL PN/PN SDIO-2TX/2TX. In this case, the device can no longer be used.

WARNING:

Take appropriate measures to ensure that the system/machine does not present any

danger during the firmware update phase and during the subsequent validation phase.

Safety-related firmware updates in the device may only be carried out by Phoenix Contact

authorized personnel. To update this safety-related firmware, please contact your nearest

Phoenix Contact representative.

In terms of safety, updating the non-safety-related firmware is similar to replacing a device.

For instructions on how to proceed, please refer to “Replacing the FL PN/PN SDIO-

2TX/2TX” on page 42.

Only use Ethernet interfaces X1/X2 to update the non-safety-related firmware.

Please note any other information available regarding firmware updates. If available, this

will be included with the firmware update files.

After updating the non-safety-related firmware, perform a voltage reset so that the entire

device is reinitialized.

Please note that only combinations of firmware and device versions that have been

approved by Phoenix Contact may be created.
