2.2 Safety-related method of operation of the
FL PN/PN SDIO-2TX/2TX
Depending on the selected configuration, the safe PROFINET gateway couples the safe
process data of two PROFINET/PROFIsafe systems. Safe output data in PROFINET
system 1 is supplied as safe input data in PROFINET system 2 and vice versa.
It is therefore possible to exchange safety-related data between two safety-related
controllers and to implement safety functions beyond the system limits of a safety-related
PROFINET/PROFIsafe controller.
Please note that the safe PROFINET gateway transmits the safe process data from one
PROFINET system to the other without any further measures/changes.
Safe state/behavior
in the event of an error
(failure state)
The safe state is where the value “0” (substitute value) is forwarded to the next
PROFINET/PROFIsafe network or the transmission of safe messages is set.
All serious errors in the device, which can lead to the loss of or adversely affect the safety
function, switch the device to the failure state (safe state).
This state is indicated by the red “FS” (Failure State) diagnostic indicator on the front of the
device (see item 6 in Figure 2-3 on page 28).
The failure state can only be exited by switching the supply voltage of the safe PROFINET
gateway off and on again.
For descriptions of error states, associated effects, and appropriate measures for error
removal, please refer to “Errors: Messages and removal” on page 51.
DIP switches/
PROFIsafe addresses
WARNING: Observe the safety integrity level of the entire safety function/chain,
otherwise there is a risk of death or injury and loss of functional safety
When specifying the safety functions, take into consideration the entire safety chain,
which extends over two PROFINET systems coupled via a safe PROFINET gateway. It is
important to note that input signals acquired with a specific safety integrity level in one
system can only ever be processed as an output signal with the same safety integrity level
in the other system. The safety integrity level in a safety function/chain must always be the
same.
WARNING:
Since it is possible for two PROFINET/PROFIsafe networks coupled via the safe
PROFINET gateway to cover the same address areas, please take measures to prevent
the RJ45 plugs on the device being mixed up. If this cannot be achieved adequately, the
F-Addresses must be uniquely assigned within the PROFINET/PROFIsafe networks
coupled by the safe PROFINET gateway.
