1.3 Field of application of the product
1.3.1 Intended use
The CONTACTRON Speed Starter is a motor switching device for starting, reversing, and
protecting the asynchronous motor in case of an overload and for shutting down the
motor in case of an emergency stop (STO). Additionally, a ramp for soft start/soft stop as
well as different speeds can be set in the device. This device is only suitable for control
cabinets.
1.3.2 Foreseeable misuse
– When operating a single-phase device with a single-phase grid with at least
200 V AC, you must not set the motor voltage to 110 V AC in the OPTIONS menu.
Otherwise, the device could be damaged.
– Do not connect a single-phase device to three phases.
– Do not remove the control panel while the device is connected to power.
1.3.3 Product changes
Changes or modifications to hardware and software of the device are not permitted.
– Incorrect operation or modifications to the device can endanger your safety or dam-
age the device. Do not repair the device yourself. If the device is defective, please
contact Phoenix Contact.
1.3.4 After unpacking
After receiving the CONTACTRON Speed Starter, check the following:
– Inspect the product after unpacking to ensure that it was not damaged during ship-
ment. Make sure that the item number printed on the package matches the item
number indicated on the rating plate.
– Make sure that the mains voltage is within the range indicated on the rating plate.
Install the CONTACTRON Speed Starter in accordance with the instructions in this
manual.
– Before applying power, make sure that all connections, including mains power, con-
trol lines, and motor lines, are connected correctly.
– To prevent damage to the CONTACTRON Speed Starter, make sure that the wiring of
input terminals “L1, L2, L3” and output terminals “U, V, W” is correct when wiring the
CONTACTRON Speed Starter.
