■ Secure the workpiece. A workpiece securely
held by a clamping device or vice is much safer
than one held in your hand.
■ Do not rest your hands next to or in front of
the appliance or the area being worked as
there is a risk of injury if you slip.
■ Always route the power cord towards the
rear, away from the appliance.
■ Ensure that nobody can be endangered by
flying sparks. Remove all flammable material
from the vicinity. Sanding metal creates flying
sparks.
■ CAUTION! RISK OF FIRE! Avoid overheating
the material being sanded as well as the
sander. Always empty the dust collector
before taking work breaks. Sanding dust in
the dust sack, microfilter, paper sack (or in
the
filter sack or filter of the vacuum cleaner) can
ignite under unfavourable conditions, for
example, due to flying sparks when sanding
metals. This is a particular risk if the dust is
mixed with paint or polyurethane residues or
other chemicals and the workpiece has become
hot after being worked for a long time.
■ When working for extended periods of time on
wood and, in particular, materials that produce
dust which is hazardous to health, connect the
appliance to an appropriate external dust
extraction device. Wear safety goggles and a
protective dust mask!
■ Ensure sufficient ventilation when working
on plastics, paints, lacquers, etc.
■ Use the tool only for dry sanding. Water
entering a power tool will increase the risk of
electric shock.
■ Switch the appliance on before applying it to
the workpiece. After completing the task, lift
the appliance from the workpiece and then
switch it off.
■ Always allow the appliance to come to a
complete standstill before putting it down.
■ The appliance must always be kept clean,
dry and free from oil or grease.
■ Keep your work area clean. Mixtures of
materials can be particularly dangerous. Light
metal dust can burn or explode.
Original accessories/attachments
■ Use only the additional equipment and acces-
sories specified in the operating instructions.
Using attachments or accessory tools other than
those recommended in the operating instruc-
tions can lead to a risk of injury.
Before use
Selecting a sanding sheet
Removal and surface
The material removal rate and surface quality are
determined by the grain of the sanding sheet.
■ Please note that you need to use sandpapers
with different grains for working different
materials.
Changing sanding sheets
The random orbital sander has a hook-and-loop
sheet that enables fast and simple changing of the
sanding sheets.
NOTE
► Before fitting a new sanding sheet4, remove
any dust and dirt from the sanding pad3.
Attachment
♦ You can attach the sanding sheet 4 to the
sanding pad 3 using the hook-and-loop
fastening surfaces.
♦ Ensure that the extraction holes on the sanding
sheet4 match up with those on the sanding
pad3. Use the sanding sheet alignment tool 8
as shown in Fig. A on the fold-out page.
Removal
♦ Simply pull the sanding sheet4 off the sanding
pad3.
