Protect the rechargeable
battery from heat (for example, from continu-
ous exposure to sunlight), fire, water and
moisture. There is a risk of explosion.
6. Service
a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified
repair person using only identical replace-
ment parts. This will ensure that the safety of
the power tool is maintained.
b) Never try to repair damaged batteries.
Maintenance of batteries should only be
carried out by the manufacturer or an approved
customer service centre.
General safety warnings for saws
Keep all body parts away from the saw chain
while the saw is running. Before starting the
saw, make sure that the saw chain is not
touching anything. When working with a saw,
a moment of inattentiveness can lead to clothing
or body parts getting caught in the saw chain.
Hold the saw only by the insulated grips as
the saw chain could come into contact with
hidden power lines. If the saw chain comes
into contact with a live wire, this may make
exposed metal parts of the power tool live
and could give the operator an electric shock.
Wear safety goggles. Additional protective
equipment for your ears, head, hands, legs
and feet is recommended. Suitable protective
clothing reduces the risk of injury from flying
chips and accidental contact with the saw
chain.
Do not work with the saw in a tree, on a
ladder, on a roof, or while standing on an
unstable surface. There is a serious risk of
injury if you operate the tool in such a manner.
Make sure you have firm footing and use the
saw only when standing on firm, safe and
level ground. Slippery floors or unstable stand-
ing surfaces (e.g. on a step ladder) can lead to
a loss of balance or loss of control of the saw.
When sawing a branch that is under tension,
be prepared for it to spring back. Once the
tension in the wooden fibres is released, the
branch can hit the operator and/or knock the
saw out of their hands.
Be extremely careful when cutting brushwood
and young trees. The thin material can catch in
the saw chain and fly in your direction or knock
you off balance.
Saw wood only. Do not use the saw for work
for which it is not intended. Example: Do not
use the saw to saw metal, plastic, masonry or
construction materials that are not made of
wood. Using the saw for work other than that
for which it was intended can lead to hazardous
situations.
Follow all instructions, when you are freeing
the saw from accumulations of material,
putting it into storage or performing mainte-
nance tasks.
Make sure the tool is switched
off and the battery is removed.
Unexpected activation of the saw when remov-
ing trapped material or during maintenance can
cause serious injury.
Causes and avoidance of kickback
WARNING! KICKBACK!
Be aware of the danger of kickback when
working with the tool. There is a risk of per-
sonal injury. You can avoid kickbacks by
being careful and using the correct sawing
technique.
Kickbacks can occur if the tip of the guide rail
touches an object or if the wood bends and
the saw chain gets caught in the cut.
Contact with the tip of the rail can, in some
cases, lead to an unexpected rearwards reac-
tion resulting in the guide rail flying upwards
towards the operator.
A kickback is caused by incorrect use or misuse.
It can be avoided by taking proper precautions
as given below:
Avoid any abnormal posture and do not saw
over shoulder height. This will prevent inadvert-
ent contact with the tip of the rail and allows a
better control of the saw in unexpected situations.
