USING THE MOWER
Your new lawnmower combines three different functions in the same machine:
1. “MULCHING”
The machine comes equipped with a plug (P),installed in the discharge
chute (figure 6). The machine can be used for ‘Mulching’ i.e. the grass is
cut and re-cut into small particles which are blown deep into the turf out of
sight to return nutrients to the soil. To remove the plug release the pins by
pressing at R and lift the plug up and out of the discharge chute. On reins-
talling the plug ensure that both pins are pressed firmly into the holes so
that the plug snaps in place.

2. COLLECTION
Remove the mulching plug and fit the collector onto the rear of the machine.
When mowing, the grass is collected in the collector. Empty the grass onto
the compost heap or spread it over borders as fertiliser.
3. REAR EJECTION
Use the mower without the plug or the grass collector (but with the deflector flap in place). Grass will be cut and
discharged to the rear of the machine.
• Turn on the fuel tap which is located beside the air filter (Close up in Figure 7).

STARTING YOUR MOWER
Read and understand the Safety Precautions before using your mower.
• Put Mountfield 4-stroke, or an SAE 10W-30 oil, in the oil filler (Figure 7). Do not overfill, the oil tank capacity
is 0,55 litres. Mountfield oil, part number MX855, is available from any Mountfield stockist or B&Q store.
• Fill the fuel tank with UNLEADED petrol. Use only clean, fresh petrol - stale fuel may contain deposits that
will clog the carburettor. Do not overfill, the petrol level should be below the bottom of the fuel tank neck.
• Ensure that the spark plug lead is securely connected to the spark plug.

NOTE: Using the choke is usually unnecessary when starting a warm engine. However, in cool weather it may
still be necessary to use the choke to strat the engine.
STOPPING YOUR MOWER

ignition safety cut out device.
