Tool / battery protection system
Thetoolisequippedwithtool/batteryprotectionsystem.
Thissystemautomaticallycutsopowertothemotorto
extendtoolandbatterylife.Thetoolwillautomatically
stopduringoperationifthetoolorbatteryisplaced
under one of the following conditions:

NOTICE: Depending on the usage conditions,
the tool automatically stops without any indica-
tion if the branches or debris are entangled in the
tool. In this case, switch o the tool and remove
the battery cartridge, and then remove entangled
branches or debris using tools such as pliers.
After removing the branches or debris, install the
battery cartridge and turn on the tool again.
Overload protection
Ifthetoolorbatteryisoverloadedbyentangled
branchesorotherdebris,thetoolautomaticallystops
and the caution lamp starts blinking in green.
Inthissituation,turnthetooloandstoptheapplication
that caused the tool to become overloaded. Then turn
the tool on to restart.
Overheat protection for tool or
battery
Ifthetoolorbatterycartridgeisoverheated,thetool
stopsautomatically.Whenthetoolisoverheated,the
cautionlamplightsupinred.Whenthebatterycartridge
is overheated, the caution lamp blinks in red. Let the
tooland/orbatterycooldownbeforeturningthetoolon
again.
Overdischarge protection
Whenthebatterycapacitybecomeslow,thetoolstops
automaticallyandthecautionlampstartsblinkinginred.
If the tool does not operate even when the switches are
operated,removethebatterycartridgefromthetooland
charge it.
Protections against other causes
Protectionsystemisalsodesignedforothercauses
that could damage the tool and allows the tool to stop
automatically.Takeallthefollowingstepstoclearthe
causes,whenthetoolhasbeenbroughttoatemporary
halt or stop in operation.
1.
Turnthetoolo,andthenturnitonagaintorestart.
2. Chargethebattery(ies)orreplaceit/themwith
rechargedbattery(ies).
3. Letthemachineandbattery(ies)cooldown.
Ifnoimprovementcanbefoundbyrestoringprotection
system,thencontactyourlocalMakitaServiceCenter.
Power switch action
WARNING: For your safety, this tool is
equipped with lock-o switch which prevents the
tool from unintended starting. NEVER use the tool
if it runs when you simply pull the switch lever
without pressing the lock-o lever. Return the tool
to our authorized service center for proper repairs
BEFORE further usage.
WARNING: NEVER tape down or defeat pur-
pose and function of lock-o lever.
CAUTION: Before installing the battery car-
tridge in the tool, always check to see that the
switch lever actuates properly and returns to the
"OFF" position when released. Operating a tool
withaswitchthatdoesnotactuateproperlycanlead
tolossofcontrolandseriouspersonalinjury.
CAUTION: Never put your nger on the
switch when carrying.Thetoolmaystartuninten-
tionallyandcauseinjury.
NOTICE: Do not pull the switch lever hard with-
out pressing the lock-o lever. This can cause
switch breakage.
Press the main power button to turn on the tool. To turn
othetool,pressandholdthemainpowerbuttonuntil
thespeedindicatorgoeso.

3. Caution lamp
NOTE: The caution lamp blinks in green if the switch
lever is pulled under unoperatable conditions as
follows:
• Turning on the main power switch while holding
downthelock-oleverandtheswitchlever.
• Pullingtheswitchleverwiththelock-olever
being held down while folding the tool head.
NOTE:Thistoolemploystheautopower-ofunction.
Themainpowerswitchwillautomaticallyshutdownif
thetoolisnotoperatedforapproximately5minute(s).
NOTE:Theautopower-ofunctioncanbeserved
whenthetoolstopsduetoprotectionsystemoper-
ation.Themainpowerswitchwillautomaticallyshut
downapproximately5minute(s)afterthemotor
automaticallystopsandnocorrectiveactionistaken
against tool protection.
Topreventtheswitchleverfrombeingaccidentally
pulled,adoublelock-oswitchisprovidedforsafety.
To start the tool, push the lock lever down forward past
itsnormalpositionusingthewebofyourhand(i.e.,the
partbetweenthumbandindexnger)andsqueezethe
lock-oleverwithyourpalm.Thenpulltheswitchlever
withthelock-oleverbeingheld.
Release the switch lever to stop.
