5.2.2 Practical mixing of concrete or mortar
Attention
Rotating mixing tools!
Do not reach into the running mixing drum!
If the mixing drum is blocked, switch off the motor immediately!
Place the mixer as close as possible to the gravel or sand pile so that the mixing drum can be
conveniently filled with shovels.
First pour the necessary water in the running empty mixing drum, then add a few shovels of gravel or
sand. This is followed by the cement or lime. Then fill in the rest of the gravel or sand and add more
water to achieve the desired consistency.
After completion of filling, allow to mix for at least 60 seconds and then empty slowly.
Do not overfill the mixing drum, mix should not run out over the inner edge of the drum.
Reduced filling results in a better mixing quality.
The mixing drum inclination – related to the required consistency – should be observed.
As a rule, filling and emptying should only be carried out when the mixing drum is running.
With regard to the composition of the mixture, it is essential to consult a specialist who is familiar
with the technological regulations for concrete and mortar.
6. Maintenance and repair
Observe safety instructions on page 16 on and "Maintenance and repair".
6.1 Cleaning
The mixing drum must be thoroughly cleaned inside and outside before every longer break and after
completion of the daily work.
Observe before cleaning!
- Before carrying out any cleaning work by directly touching the mixer (also with a brush, cloth,
scraper, etc.), switch it off and disconnect it from the mains.
- If protective covers are removed for cleaning, it is imperative that they are properly replaced at
the end of the work.
- Do not direct water jets or poured water directly at the engine during indirect cleaning operations.
Notes on cleaning
Do not operate the mixer while cleaning is being carried out by hand.
Clean the outside of the mixer with water and a brush. Scrape off hardened concrete or mortar crusts.
There must be no concrete or mortar crust inside the drum and on the pinion and gear rim. Deposits on
the motor and switch housing must also be removed.
The best way to scrub the inside of the drum clean is to run a few shovels of gravel with water around it
before long breaks in the work or after the work is finished. This prevents concrete or mortar residues
from hardening in the drum and on the mixing rakes.
Do not tap the mixing drum with hard objects such as hammers, shovels, etc. A dented mixing drum
impairs the mixing process and is more difficult to clean.
