5. Cut ingredients to the same size so that they are prepared evenly.
6. By roasting meat and frying vegetables in advance on a separate pan you will remove
a part of fat from meat and also the appearance and the taste of meat and vegetables
will improve. But this is not necessary.
7. You do not have to use fat (oil, butter, lard) at all (use only oil for greasing the ceramic
pot before cooking), particularly when you want your food to be diet. If you can do without
fat, 2 - 3 spoons of oil are sufficient according to the number of portions that you cook.
8. Open the lid during cooking as little as possible as heat goes away then and liquids
evaporate. Depending on how often and for how long you lifted the lid, you will have to
extend the time of cooking by 20 to 30 minutes.
9. When you cook in the slow pot according to usual recipes, you will need less liquid.
In slow cooking, liquids are not evaporated as quickly as in usual cooking, but some
minimum amount of liquid must be in the pot that helps to ensure heat conduction.
10. Always fill the pot with ingredients at least to one half so that the recommended times
of cooking apply. The pots (volume of 6 l) are for 7 portions.
11. To avoid boilover, do not fill in the internal ceramic pot to more than 4/5.
12. Dairy products, such as cream, sour cream or yoghurt need to be added at the end of
the preparation to avoid curdling.
13. Let frozen vegetables, such as peas, melt and add them for the last half an hour or the
last hour of preparation. In this way the vegetables will keep their colour and structure.
At the same time, the mixture in the pot will not be excessively cooled down.
14. You will reach the best results when all ingredients are immersed in liquid.
15. Remove excessive fat from meat. Cook meat (including poultry), fish and seafood
thoroughly.
16. When boiling entire joints (e.g. knuckles) it is important that they get into the container
easily and always add liquid. Turn them regularly during cooking.
17. When using warm ingredients, cooking will be shorter.
18. For thickening a sauce etc., mix a bit of corn flour with a small amount of cold water
and mix. Add the prepared mixture into the ceramic container at the end of the
preparation. Cover the pot with a lid and continue cooking until the sauce is thickened
and starts simmering.
19. Do not heat food in the slow pot repeatedly.
