Cleaning and maintenance
For hygiene reasons, the inside of the appliance and accessories should be cleaned regularly.
IMPORTANT:
High ambient temperatures (e.g. on a hot summer’s day) and a cold setting on the temperature
control can cause the compressor to operate continuously in order to maintain a low temperature
in the appliance. However, this can cause a thick layer of ice to form on the inside walls of the
freezer. If this happens, change the temperature to a warmer setting.
Switch off the appliance and unplug
it before cleaning and defrosting it.
Defrosting the appliance
• The freezer must be defrosted when the layer of ice is about 5 millimetres thick and at least once
a year.
• To defrost it, use a scraper or any plastic utensil, rather than metal instruments, ice-removal
products or electric appliances such as hair dryers, steam cleaners, etc. When removing ice, be
careful to not damage the drain plug area or lining of the freezer.
• Choose a time when your appliance is not full.
• 6 hours before defrosting, change the temperature to the coldest setting to make sure that the
frozen foods remain as cold as possible while you are defrosting the appliance.
To defrost the appliance:
1. Unplug the appliance.
2. Remove the frozen food and wrap it in several layers of newspaper. Cover and store the
wrapped food in a cool place, but never on a metal surface.
3. Remove the storage baskets.
4. Open up the lid. You can place hot water containers in the freezer to speed up the defrosting
process.
5. Put a drip tray under the drain hole to collect the defrosted water.
6. Pull out the drain plug inside the appliance and pull off the drain plug on the outside of the
appliance so the water can drain out into the tray. Check the drain hole for any blockages (such
as ice or food debris). Remove any blockages.
7. When it has finished draining, reinstall both drain plugs.
8. Thoroughly clean the inside of the freezer with a soft sponge.
9. When the freezer compartment is completely dry, close the door, plug the appliance back in and
set the temperature to the coldest setting.
10. Let the freezer cool down for one hour before putting the food back inside. Do not change the
setting for at least two hours.
Cleaning the appliance
The appliance must be cleaned twice a year.
• Unplug the appliance.
• Wipe the inner and outer surfaces of the appliance and its accessories with a soft, damp cloth. If
they are very dirty, rub them with a mild detergent, rinse with water and then wipe with a clean cloth.
• Remove the dust on the back of the appliance to prevent a fire hazard or overheating the
appliance.
• Do not use abrasive or caustic detergents, or metal scrapers.
• Never spray water directly into the appliance. This could cause rust or reduce insulation.
• The rubber seals of the door must be cleaned regularly and kept in good condition.
• Never use a steam cleaner to clean the appliance. The moisture generated can accumulate on
the electrical components and could expose users to the risk of an electric shock! The hot steam
can also damage the interior parts made of plastic.
• The appliance must be completely dry before being restarted.
In case of prolonged absence or non-use
• Set the temperature to the hottest setting, then turn off the appliance.
• Unplug, empty, defrost and clean the appliance.
• Leave the lid open to prevent odours from arising.
