Storing food
Store food in the chest freezer
WARNING!
• Do not place food or containers in the freezer compartment with wet hands when the chest freezer is
running, especially metal containers, to avoid the risk of skin abrasions and ice burns.
• Do not consume frozen food, such as ice popsicles and ice cubes, straight from the freezer. This may
cause ice burns.
• Do not use the chest freezer to store water or food that requires water as a storage medium.
• Never place fresh seafood containing water into the chest freezer directly.
CAUTION!
• Always follow food storage times and use by dates suggested by manufacturers.
• Store raw meat and fish in suitable containers in the refrigerator, so that it is not in contact with or drip
onto other food.
• Do not place carbonated or fizzy drinks in the freezer compartment as it creates pressure in the
container, which may cause it to explode and damage the product.
• Do not leave bottles in the chest freezer for longer period than needed as freezing may cause the bottle
break. Bottled or canned liquid are at risk of exploding caused by volume expansion and should not be
stored in the freezer compartment.
Use the following tips and recommendations when storing food in the chest freezer.
• Prepare food in small portions to enable it to be rapidly and completely frozen and in turn make it possible to thaw
only the quantity required. Once defrosted, food will deteriorate rapidly and should not be frozen again. When food
freezes too slowly, it can lose quality or go bad.
• Cover or wrap the food, particularly if it has a strong flavour. Wrap up the food in aluminium foil or polyethylene food
wraps which are airtight. Wipe containers dry before placing them in the freezer.
• Label and date each frozen package in order to keep track of the storage time.
• Do not allow fresh unfrozen food to touch the food which is already frozen to avoid temperature rise of the latter.
• Ensure that frozen food has been stored correctly by the food retailer.
• During power outage, foods in the freezer can be kept for several hours. Do not open the door during power outage,
and do not put any more fresh food into the freezer. In case of a long power outage, place dry ice in the freezer.
• Do not touch the surface of the inner box directly when refrigeration food.
• To prevent moisture loss and odour, separate different foods using sealed containers. Only use non-toxic, tasteless,
impermeable, waterproof sealing materials.
• Place food properly so that air can circulate freely around it.
