7.1 Cleaning and Maintenance
• Keep the surface of this tool and its accessories free of
hydraulic uid and grease. Use only a mild detergent
and damp cloth when cleaning. Do not use a
ammable or combustible solvent to clean this tool or
its accessories.
• Before each use, examine the general condition of the
tool and its accessories. Check for loose components,
misalignment, binding of moving parts, broken parts
and any other condition that may aect its safe
operation. Do not use a damaged tool or its damaged
accessories.
• Grease the handle socket regularly.
• Keep hydraulic connections clean. Clean all hydraulic
ports and replace dust covers immediately after use.
• Store the pump (3) with the release valve (5) open.
7.2 Filling and Bleeding Hydraulic Fluid
If the pump (3) operation feels spongy, or the ram (9)
lowers while the release valve (5) is closed there may be
air in the pump. Check and bleed the pump as follows:
• Checking Fluid Level
− Place the pump (3) on a at level surface and
rmly close the release valve (5).
− Remove the ller screw (2). The seal ring should
remain tted. The uid level should be near the
bottom of the opening. If required, add high grade
hydraulic uid.
− Ensure the seal ring is still tted to the ller screw
and ret the ller screw securely to the pump. Do
not use thread seal tape.
• Bleeding air from Pump
− Place the pump (3) on a at level surface and open
the release valve (5) by 1½ – 2 turns. Loosen the
ller screw slightly.
− Pump the handle 10 – 15 times to remove any air.
− Close the release valve (5) and tighten the ller
screw (2).
• Changing hydraulic uid
− Change the hydraulic uid yearly.
− Remove the ller screw (2) and tilt the pump (3)
to drain out the old uid.
− Rell the hydraulic uid and ret the ller
screw (2).
− Bleed the system several times to ensure all
air is out of the system.
