Proper Hand Position (Fig. L)
WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal injury,
ALWAYS use proper hand position as shown.

Proper hand position requires one hand on the main
handle

. Do not cut short pieces of material that requires
hands to be within 6" from the rotating head or opposite end
of the pipe.
Installing and Removing the Battery Pack (Fig. K)
WARNING: Ensure the tool/appliance is in the off position
before inserting the batterypack.
nOTE: For best results, make sure your battery pack is
fullycharged.
1. To install the battery pack

into the tool handle, align
the battery pack with the rails inside the tool’s handle and
slide it into the handle until the battery pack is firmly seated
in the tool and ensure that it does notdisengage.
2. To remove the battery pack from the tool, press the
battery pack release button

and firmly pull the battery
pack out of the toolhandle. Insert battery into thecharger.
OPERATION

before making any adjustments or removing/installing
attachments or accessories. An accidental start‑up can
causeinjury.
Replacing the Cutting Wheel (Fig. G–J)
CAUTION: Only DeWALT replacement copper cutting
wheels (DCE1542CW) will function with thistool.
1. Place the tool with the vent facing down (Fig. G).
2. Loosen the two screws

nOTE: Do not remove thescrews.
3. Rotate the right side of cover plate

to expose the
cutting wheel pin

4. Push the cutting wheel pin out of the tool from the
opposite side (Fig.I).
5. Remove the cutting wheel

using needle nose pliers.
Repeat steps 1–3 in reverse order to install new cutting
wheel. Ensure the screws are fully tighten beforeuse.
3. Lift the rotating head lever to disengageit.
nOTE: There should be an increased gap between base of
lever and cutting headbody.
4. Rotate the rotating head lever away from the tool
maintaining gap noted in step2.
5. Release the rotating head lever allowing noted gap in
step 2toclose.
Repeat step 1–4 until the cutting head is at the desired
tightness. Check the overall tightness, return the rotating
head lever to the closedposition.
Rotating the Cutting Head (Fig. B, C)
1. Rotate the pivot lock

away from thetool.
2. Rotate the cutting head

to the desiredposition.
3. Rotate the rotating head lever towards the tool to lock
inposition.

or incinerate. Even used batteries may cause severe injury
or death. Call a local poison control center for treatment
information. The Tool Connect
TM
chip uses a CR2032 type
battery of nominal 3V voltage. Non-rechargeable batteries
are not to be recharged. Do not force discharge, recharge,
disassemble, heat above 140°F (60°C), or incinerate. Doing
so may result in injury due to venting, leakage or explosion
resulting in chemical burns. Ensure the batteries are installed
correctly according to polarity (+ and -). Do not mix old and
new batteries, different brands or types of batteries, such as
alkaline, carbon-zinc, or rechargeable batteries. Remove and
immediately recycle or dispose of batteries from equipment
not used for an extended period of time according to
local regulations. Always completely secure the battery
compartment. If the battery compartment does not close
securely, stop using the product, remove the batteries, and
keep them away fromchildren.
Tighten or Loosen the Cutting Head to the Main
Body (Fig. D–F)
CAUTION: Do not overtighten. Overtightening may result
in damage to parts and loss offunction.
1. Pivot the cutting head

to the 90-degreeposition.
2. To tighten the cutting head to body, start with the pivot
lock

closed.
Trigger Switch and Directional Button (Fig. A)
1. To turn the tool on, push the trigger lock-off lever

toward the back of the tool, then depress the trigger
switch

. The tool will run while the trigger switch
isdepressed.
2. Turn the tool off by releasing the releasinglever.
