This prevents the seam from becoming stretched when sewing knitted fabrics such as jumpers and stretch knitted garments. The result is a

smooth seam (C).

Fashionable touches can also be introduced, such as the puckering eect when very delicate fabrics are used (D).

The following table shows the possible settings of the dierential feed. However, you should always carry out a test seam on the fabric before

starting work.

Very thin fabrics: silk, satin, poplin, taeta, lining fabrics.

Normal fabrics: light cotton, medium cotton, ne bres, thermal fabrics.

Thin knitted fabrics: Jersey, polo fabric, tricot, ne knitwear and cus.

Thick knitted fabrics: sweatshirt fabric, thick cus, knitted fabric.

Stretch-wave eect: medium-weight and lightweight knitted fabrics, jumpers, knitted,

rued edges on sleeves and neck openings, skirt hems.

Crimping: ounces of ne fabrics and lace; selvedges in circular cuts; curvatures in

blouses, shirts, skirts; rounding of pockets and lapels, puckering or slightly softening

the curved shape of sleeves or shoulders, sewing of cus or waistbands.

Sewing with the free arm

Remove the at bed extension/accessory box by pulling it out.

The free arm is particularly useful for sewing tubular garments such as leg and sleeve cus. Insert the garment over the free arm.

When you have nished free arm sewing, position the at bed extension so that it is level with the machine cover, then slide it to the right until

it clicks into place.
