2. Turning the Printer On and Off
Main power switch
Use the main power switch to cut off the power completely.
Leave this switch in the ON ( | ) position for normal daily use.

key
The
POWER
key toggles between the power saving mode and the Normal
mode.
When the printer is in the Normal mode, the READY lamp is on and all the
functions of the printer are at your command. The printer is ready to start print-
ing at any time.
When the printer is in the power saving mode, the power consumption of the
main unit is reduced to the minimum level. When in the power saving mode, the Ready lamp will be blinking.
❏ Turning On the Power
Press the main power switch to turn on the power. The printer starts to clean itself automatically as soon
as the switch is turned on to the ON ( | ) position.
The printer goes through the cleaning routine, and then goes into the Normal mode. The READY mes-
sage will be shown on the operation panel display, indicating that the printer is now ready to start a print-
ing job.
When the printer is in the power saving mode (with the READY lamp blinking slowly), press the
POWER
key to switch it into the Normal mode.
❏ Turning Off the Power
● When you finish printing jobs
Simply press the
POWER
key to bring the printer back into the power saving mode.
Usually, you don't need to turn off the main power switch after each individual job.
● When you stop using for a long time:
When you stop using the printer for weeks, or when you take it to another place, cut off the power of the
main unit completely.
First press the
POWER
key to switch into the power saving mode, and make sure that the display panel
has gone blank. Make sure also that the READY lamp is blinking slowly. Then turn the main power
switch off by putting it into the OFF (O) position, to cut off the power completely.
Even when the printer is in the power saving mode, it will start to clean itself automati-
cally and then go into the ready state (that is, the Normal mode) upon receiving a print
command or any other command from the computer.
Another way of switching it from the Normal mode into the power saving mode is
through the Utility tab of the printer driver Properties dialog box, which enables you to
control the printer mode from your computer.
● Do not touch the main power switch so as to cut the power off, while printing is per-
formed. The BJ Linehead protection will fail to work properly, and it may lead to a
breakdown.
Before cutting the power off completely, first press the
POWER
key on the operation
panel. Make sure that the printer is back into the power saving mode, and then turn
off the main power switch.
● Do not open the front cover when the printer is in the Normal mode. An error message
will appear on the operation panel display, and the printer will go into the non-opera-
tive state.
