2.2 STP
2.2.1 STP
Feature Overview
The STP feature is a link management protocol that provides path redundancy while preventing un-
desirable loops in the network that are created by multiple active paths between stations. The STP
feature enables you to form a loop free network topology. Depending upon the path cost and the
priority of the ports and bridges, the STP selects a bridge as a root bridge and forms a loop-free log-
ical topology, which ensures a single path between any two-end stations.
STP in cnMatrix
Standards
The STP functionality is realized in the network using one of the three following STPs:
■ RSTP (802.1w)
■ MSTP (802.1s)
■ PVRST
Scaling Numbers
■ A maximum of 32PVRST instances can be configured in PVRST mode.
■ A maximum of 8 MSTP instances can be configured in MSTP mode.
Limitations
■ 802.1d standard is supported only in compatibility mode which allows cnMatrix to interact
with legacy bridges who supports legacy STP feature.
Default Values
■ The STP feature is enabled by default in RSTP mode.
