Bypassing the Threading Port
Specific threads, heavyweight or specialty, may require that
the thread bypass the thread port which will loosen the pull
on the thread. Start with the machine threaded with overlock
thread.
1. Open the cutting blade cover and front cover and raise the
presser foot.
2. Thread the upper looper with overlock thread and just above
the threading port, clip the upper looper thread. Pull the
thread out of the upper guides leaving the overlock thread in
the lower looper and chain looper port.
3. Place the specialty thread on the spool pin. If the thread be
-
ing used is not on a standard cone make sure to use the
correct support, a sponge disk or large spool pin disk, when
placing the thread on the spool pin. Thread the upper guides
and then bring the thread to the bypass guide located just
to the left of the threading ports. Leave approximately 12
inches (305mm) of thread to be threaded through the upper
looper (fig. A&B).
4. With threading lever in serging position, use tweezers to pull
the existing looper thread out of tube extending from the
threading mechanism (fig. C). Leave the overlock thread in
the upper looper.
5. Tie the specialty thread and overlock thread together using
an overhand knot (fig. D). Pull on the overlock thread from
the looper eye until the specialty thread comes through the
upper looper eye. Figure F shows the path of the decorative
thread when using the Bypass guide.
6. Trim the specialty thread to 4 inches (100mm), and bring the
thread under the presser foot. Close the cutting blade cover
and front cover.
If the thread is heavy and the overhand knot (step #5) is too
large for the looper tube, follow directions #1 thru #6 on page
67 to make a thread cradle. To complete threading follow the
steps below.
1. Engage the threading lever to the serging position.
2. While holding the loose ends of the thread cradle with one
hand, use the tweezers to pull the cradle loop out of the
tube extending from the threading mechanism with the other
hand (fig. C).
3. Insert 2 inches (50mm) of the decorative thread into the cra
-
dle loop. Pull on the loose ends of the thread cradle from
the looper eye until the specialty thread comes through the
chain looper eye (fig. E).
4. Trim the specialty thread to 4 inches (100mm), and bring the
thread under the presser foot. Close the cutting blade cover
and front cover. Figure F shows the path of the decorative
thread when using the Bypass guide.
