Flat Hemming - Cover Stitch

1. Leave one seam open.

2. Measure, turn up and press hem on garment or project.

3. On right side of the fabric mark hem allowance with fabric mark

-

ing pen.

4. Place garment or project right side up under the presser foot

aligning a needle or needles with the fabric edge on the under

-

side (fig. A).

5. Stitch hem (fig. B).

6. Stitch remaining seam to complete hem.

NOTE: Optional hemming guides or attachments will assist with

fabric alignment when hemming. Contact your authorized Baby

Lock retailer for these optional hemming guides and attachments.

Hemming in the Round - Cover Stitch

1. Sew all garment or project seams.

2. Measure, turn up and press the hem.

3. Place garment or project under the presser foot aligning a needle

or needles with the fabric edge underneath. Stitch around

hem overlapping the ending and starting points approximately

1/2 inch (13mm) (Fig. A).

4. Turn the handwheel towards you until the needles are in the low

-

est position in the fabric.

5. Carefully reverse the handwheel until the needles are in the high

-

est position.

6. Raise the presser foot and pull slack in the needle threads.

7. Carefully and firmly pull fabric and threads to the left. Cut needle

threads leaving a 4-5 inch (100-127mm) thread tail. On the un-

derside cut the chain looper thread.

8. With the needle threads on the underside of the fabric, tie off the

needle threads and chain looper thread (fig. B).

9. Use a seam sealant to secure the threads at the thread knot and

trim thread tails when seam sealant drys. Another option is to

bury the thread tails under the chain looper stitching on the un

-

derside once the seam sealant has dried.
