2.5 Dual-Mode DisplayPort Configuration
The NVIDIA GPU also supports Multimode DisplayPort configurations. The dual-
mode DisplayPort interface allows for support for an HDMI dongle on this interface.
To support this dual mode, the AUX channel must be able to support I2C signals,
which are required for HDMI. Hence, the ability to switch between AUX and I2C sig-
nals is required. This can be implemented with a simple DP-Aux device that is con-
trolled by the DP Mode (DA_MODE) signal (pin 13) on the DisplayPort connector.
Figure 2.4 is a conceptual diagram illustrating the connections required for the Dual-
Mode DisplayPort mode. In the Dual-Mode case, the following are all required:
100 kΩ pull-downs on both AUX_N and AUX_P placed near the GPU
A DP-AUX device used to short-out the capacitor and level shift when a DP to HDMI
dongle is detected.
