Dimmer Manager software
Instruction Manual - page 49
Issue: 004
Lighting Technologies
Example No. 4: the DMX console is in the control room, at one end of the daisy-chain.
NETPORT XT is inserted in the daisy-chain e.g. on stage. In the control room you must terminate
the second data pair (pin 4 and 5). And at the other end of the DMX+ADN line you must terminate
both data pairs.
Situation B: DMX+ADN cables – DMX generated by a console
This is the case where NETPORT XT is used exclusively for ADN and Dimmer Manager. Its "DMX
out" functionality is not used. The DMX data come from a console, at one end of the daisy-chain.
The cabling is two-pair DMX+ADN cable.
The two data pairs in the DMX+ADN cable need to be terminated. One termination resistor
comes between pin 2 and pin 3; one termination resistor comes between pin 4 and pin 5.
Example No. 3: the DMX console and the NETPORT XT are in the control room, at one end of
the daisy-chain. Then you must terminate both data pairs at the other end of the DMX+ADN line.
Note: the active DMX output of the lighting console (or a DMX amplifier/booster/splitter) replaces
the termination for the DMX pair at that end. But you still have to terminate the ADN pair at that end.
A very practical tool is a XLR5M-to-XLR5F with internal resistor (120 Ohm) between pins 4 and 5.
