Pull both front legs of the fetus out of the pubic port and then attach the obstetric rope
or chain on the front legs of the calf, see image below:
Push and pull hard on the obstetric apparatus when the cow give birth, and remember, do not push too
hard until the neck of the uterus is fully open. When pulling calves with calf puller, the direction should
be backwards and downwards, not always backwards. Ratchets are only used when making the
midwifery rope or chain compact.
When the foreleg and nose of the calf are exposed, and the amniotic membrane is still not broken, the
amniotic can be torn and the mucus in the calf 's nose can be wiped away to facilitate the calf's breathing
and prevent suffocation. The calf is slowly pulled out in an arc downward in the direction of the pelvic
birth canal in an oblique scapular position. At the same time, the other person presses with both hands
on the vulva to protect the perineum from tearing. After the lumbar of the calf has passed through the
pubic, the rate of pulling out should be slowed down to avoid the prolapse of uterus. When the calf is
born backwards, following the same procedure and pull out the baby as soon as possible.
Otherwise, the calf is compressed by the umbilical cord in the pelvic cavity and is
prone to death by suffocation.
When the baby is delivered, first, wipe the mucus off the calf, nose and mouth. If the umbilicus is torn
by itself; iodine tincture can be fully applied at the broken end; If not broken, wait until the umbilical
artery stops beating, cut the umbilical cord 4 ~5 cm from the umbilical hole by hand or with scissors.
The broken end is coated with iodine tincture and ligated with gauze band. The broken end of cow side
can be tied with a knot. The mucus on the calf can be licked dry by the cow or wiped with a soft cloth.
at the same time, remove the soft hoof tissue at the end of the hoof.
After the afterbirth is discharged, it should be removed in time. Once being swallowed by cows, it will
lead to rumen food stagnation, digestive disorders. If more than 12 hours, the afterbirth still cannot be
discharged by itself, it should be medical treatment and surgical stripping promptly.
