Operation explanation
1.Determine if a cow is in a difficult birth stage
Difficult births are judged by the amniotic fluid, which is timed from the time the
fluid begins to break, and if the calf is not born for more than 2 hours, it is judged
to be a difficult birth.
2.Understanding the causes of difficult birth
There are two main causes of difficult birth: the first is maternal, e.g. incomplete
opening of the hard/soft birth canal, narrow vagina and the second is fetal: malposition, deformity or
oversize.
3.Preparation for midwifery: prepare the birthing room, disinfectant and obstetric apparatus at the
cow's due date, and the birthing room should be disinfected.
Room Requirements - It is best to have a separate maternity room that is free from human noise and
unnecessary disturbances. The floor should not be too smooth and should be covered with clean, dry
matting. It ensures that cows are free to stay in the delivery room. When the cow is lying down, she
needs to be placed on her left side to reduce rumen pressure.
The arms of the operator should also be disinfected and the overall environment
clean.
When a cow shows signs of giving birth, the following steps are recommended:

the birth canal) with warm soapy water, and then disinfecting with medicinal liquid (1% lysol or 0.1 %
potassium permanganate). A lubricant (liquid soap) should be used for birth attendant arms.
