4. Steps of usage
Step 1: Preparing the Fluid
Dilute the liquid medicine with warm water in the correct proportion and pour it into a
bucket.
Step 2: Preparing the Cow
Position the cow with its head lowered and extended forward, so that the esophagus is
straight and aligned with the rumen.
Insert the guide tube carefully into the cow's mouth. Hold the cow's nose with the bull's
nose forceps to keep it steady.
Step 3: Inserting the Esophageal Irrigation Tube
Carefully insert the esophageal irrigation tube. If resistance is felt, pause and allow the cow
to swallow the tube naturally. Do not push the tube forcefully.
Step 4: Pouring the Fluid into the Rumen
Place the pumping device into the bucket and manually press it to pump the liquid into the
gastric tube, allowing the fluid to enter the rumen and complete the rehydration process.
How to Ensure the Gastric Tube is Correctly Inserted:
1.
Observe the cow's reaction: Severe reactions indicate that the tube may be in the trachea
instead of the esophagus.
2.
Listen for airflow: You can listen directly or place the outer end of the tube in water to check
for bubbles.
3.
Smell: Open the valve and check for a distinct odor to confirm.
4.
Blow air into the tube: Observe the cow's neck for movement. If the tube is in the trachea,
the cow may cough and exhale air from the tube tip.
Note: Do not insert the tube too deeply into the stomach, as this may cause gastric juices to flow out.
If the tube enters the trachea, the cow will likely cough and exhale frequently from the tube tip.
