5.5 Heartbeat and Node-Guarding
There are two possible ways to supervise the operational availability of a CAN node
during operation.
• Heartbeat
• Node-Guarding
The heartbeat protocol is independent from the master. It is the recommended
mechanism. The device sends autonomous and cyclic a "life" message.
• Wachendorff Automation recommends the use of the
heartbeat protocol.
