One-Time Password: A secured authentication method that enhance security
by using 3
rd
party authenticator to generate password and make sure the
password will either expire overtime or can be used only once. One of
recommended authenticator App is “Google Authenticator”. User will need to
download it on their mobile device or computer. Open up the Google
Authenticator and click on the + button to add a device. Click on Scan QR code.
Once you select Time-Based or Counter-Based one-time password, a QR
code will populate that you can scan to synchronize your device to the Google
Authenticator.
Time-Based one-time password: The password will change in 30-second
periods since the Unix epoch (TOTP). The device and Google Authenticator
will refresh the password every 30 seconds and any previous password will
become invalid. The device and Google Authenticator must be synced with
the correct time or time server to avoid an invalid password. Should the time
un-sync, the device will need the be factory reset.
