MOVING THE RAMP
The ramp is equipped with a detachable fork
pocket towing assembly (18-001-309). A “key” on
the underside of the assembly fits into a keyhole in
the surface of the bottom end of the ramp. Align
the key with the circular portion of the keyhole.
Press the key into the keyhole and slide the key
forward into the slot. The shaft of the key will slide
forward into the keyhole slot. The wing nut wound
onto the key in spring-biased. Spring tension
creates a clamp that pinches the ramp plate
between the key and the nut.
Move the ramp with a lift truck. Insert a fork into
the fork pocket (part no. 18-001-309 in applicable
Exploded View). Attach the safety hook to the
carriage of the lift truck without slack. Raise the
fork carriage sufficiently to lift the end of the ramp
off of the ground. The ramp can now be pushed
with the lift truck. DO NOT pull the ramp! Chock the
wheels whenever the ramp is parked.
RECORD OF SATISFACTORY CONDITION (THE “RECORD”)
Record the condition of the ramp before putting it into service. Thoroughly photograph the unit from multiple
angles. Include close range photographs of the hand pump, oil tank, and manifold. Make the tank to indicate
the level of oil inside it. Also take close range photographs of every label applied to the ramp and the landing
gear. Use the hand pump to raise and lower the ramp. Describe the effort necessary to move the handle.
Describe sounds heard as the ramp elevates and descends. Move the unit and describe how the ramp moves.
Collect the photographs and writings in a file. Mark the file appropriately to identify it. This file is a record of the
ramp in satisfactory condition. Compare the results of each inspection to this record to determine whether the
unit is still in satisfactory condition. Purely cosmetic changes, like damaged surface finish (paint or powdercoat),
are not changes from satisfactory condition. However, touchup paint should be applied to all affected areas as
soon as damage occurs.
INSPECTING AND MAINTAINING THE RAMP
Compare the results of all inspections to the Record to determine whether the ramp is in satisfactory condition.
DO NOT use the ramp unless it is in satisfactory condition. If you are uncertain whether the ramp is in satisfactory
condition, contact the Technical Service & Parts Department. Designated inspection personnel should inspect
the lifter before it is used for the first time and thereafter as directed. Refer to the appropriate Exploded View on
p. 7, 8, or 9, as necessary to identify features named in these directions.
Although the hydraulic system is factory filled with oil to the proper level, it is possible that leaks develop during
shipping. Before using the ramp for the first time, inspect the hoses, fittings, cylinders, tank, pump, and manifold
for oil leaks. Tighten fittings, if necessary.
Before inspecting or performing maintenance on the ramp:
1. Open the release valve (see p. 3) and allow the ramp to completely lower.
2. Chock both sides of both wheels.
3. Install blocks under the upper end (lip) of the ramp to provide an additional means for supporting the
ramp. A boom truck or fork truck could be used in place of blocks.
4. Post warning signs indicating that the ramp is out of service.
5. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (hard hat, gloves, eye protection, etc.).
Inspections
Before EVERY use, examine the following:
1. Ramp walking/driving surfaces: Check the surfaces for broken welds, warped metal and other signs of metal
fatigue (cracks, stretches, etc.), and severe rusting.
2. Landing gear: Examine the landing gear. Make sure that the tires are not underinflated. Also confirm that the
tires are undamaged. For example, inspect them for dry rot, cuts, bulges, etc.
