SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Vestil strives to identify foreseeable hazards associated with the use of its products, but no manual can
address every conceivable risk. Reduce risk by applying sound judgment whenever using this device.
Acquire a copy of the latest version of ANSI A14.2: Ladders – Portable Metal (“A14.2” or the “Standard”).
Apply all parts of the Standard that concern using, inspecting, maintaining & repairing a special purpose,
single or sectional, portable, metal ladder. Keep a copy of this manual with the ladder at all times, e.g.
inside a plastic pouch attached to the frame. Users of this ladder must be made aware of the existence of
this manual and know where to find a copy of it.
Electrocution might result if the ladder contacts electrified wires.
DO NOT contact electrified wires with any part of the ladder, your body, or your clothing while
positioning or climbing the ladder.
DO NOT use the ladder where it could contact electrified wires.
DO NOT use the ladder close to electrified wires or other sources of electricity.
Before using the ladder, always inspect the usage area for unusual conditions that require special
precautions.
Improper or careless use of this product might result in serious personal injuries sustained by the person
using ladder or bystanders. Reduce the likelihood of serious injury by applying the following
recommendations:
DO NOT exceed the maximum rated load of your ladder. See SPECIFICATIONS on p. 2. The total
weight applied to the ladder must not exceed the 300 pounds (136kg) maximum rated load, i.e. weight
of person climbing ladder + materials, tools, etc.
DO NOT inspect, maintain, or repair the ladder unless you are qualified to do so. The ladder might not
be safe to use if it is improperly inspected, repaired, or maintained.
DO NOT modify the ladder without first obtaining written approval from the manufacturer. Modifying
the ladder automatically voids the LIMITED WARRANTY (p. 8) and might weaken the ladder and/or
make it unsafe to use.
DO NOT climb the ladder if it does not hang properly from the wall. See USING THE TANK LADDER on
p. 5. Safe use requires a structurally sound surface that is capable of supporting the combined weights
of the ladder plus its maximum rated load.
DO NOT lean over or reach beyond the side rails, because doing so might cause the ladder to tip or
slide, or cause the rubber feet to lose contact with the wall. The rubber feet must maintain solid contact
with the wall during use.
Always keep your body centered above the longitudinal axis of the ladder while ascending and
descending the ladder. See USING THE TANK LADDER and the associated diagrams on p. 5.
DO NOT rock or twist the ladder from side to side or try to reposition the ladder while climbing it.
ONLY reposition the ladder before beginning to climb it.
Remove foreign matter, like mud or grease, from your shoes and from the surface of each rung
before stepping onto the ladder. ONLY use the ladder if it is clean and dry.
[10-steps; 12-steps; & 15-steps models] Inspect the ladder as directed in the INSPECTING AND
MAINTAINING THE TANK LADDER section. DO NOT use the ladder unless it is in SATISFACTORY CONDITION.
ALWAYS face the tank while ascending or descending the ladder.
DO NOT stand, or travel, beneath the ladder while someone is occupying it.
DO NOT use the ladder unless all labels are in place, intact, and easily readable from a reasonable
distance. See LABELING DIAGRAM on p. 7. Verify the placement and legibility of all labels. Labels are
shown in the LABELING DIAGRAM. Replace all damaged, missing, or unreadable labels. Contact Vestil’s
TECHNICAL SERVICE AND PARTS DEPARTMENT to order replacement labels.
