• Only lift one drum at a time. Make sure that there are no items on the drum before lifting it.
• DO NOT attach the carrier to a damaged drum rim. Only engage drums with intact rims.
• DO NOT carry more than 1 drum at a time.
• DO NOT lift a drum from a horizontal position. ONLY lift upright drums as shown in USING THE
DRUM CARRIER on p. 5.
• DO NOT sit on or apply any load to the drum held by the carrier.
• DO NOT exceed the capacity. Never attempt to lift a drum that weighs more than 1,500
pounds (681kg). Capacity information is provided on label 1153. See LABELING DIAGRAM on p.
6.
• DO NOT lift a load higher than necessary. See USING THE CARRIER on p. 5-8.
• DO NOT raise the load over your feet or any other part of your body.
• DO NOT lift or carry drums over people. DO NOT lift any apparatus supporting/carrying people,
such as a work platform. The lifter must ONLY be used to lift 1 drum at a time.
• Keep an eye on the drum at all times while it is engaged by the carrier.
• DO NOT leave an elevated drum unattended. Move the drum to the unloading location, land
it, and disengage the carrier from the drum rim.
• DO NOT modify the product in any way without first obtaining written approval from Vestil.
Unapproved modifications automatically void the LIMITED WARRANTY (p. 7) and might make
the product unsafe to use.
• Slowly and carefully elevate, lower, and move a drum. DO NOT start or stop suddenly. Sudden
stops/starts might induce load swing or disrupt the connection between the carrier and the
drum rim.
• DO NOT drag loads with the carrier.
• DO NOT remove or deface labeling, including data tags, tags applied to the carrier. DO NOT
use the carrier UNLESS each label/tag is in place, undamaged, and easily readable from a
reasonable distance. See LABELING DIAGRAM on p. 6.
• Inspect the product as instructed in INSPECTIONS AND MAINTENANCE on p. 6.
• DO NOT elevate a drum any higher than necessary.
• DO NOT use the carrier if it is tagged “Out of service” or is similarly designated.
NATIONAL STANDARDS
According to US Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Rule
1910.178 (29 CFR 1910.178; the “Rule”), this device is a lift truck front end attachment whenever
it is mounted on a fork of a lift truck. The Rule incorporates American National Standard
ANSI/ITSDF B56.1 (the “Standard”) published by the Industrial Truck Standards Development
Foundation (ITSDF) on its website (www.itsdf.org
). The standard is freely downloadable at
http://www.itsdf.org/cue/b56-standards.html. Before putting this device into service, acquire a
copy of the Standard. Apply all relevant parts of Part II: For the User. If instructions provided in
this manual conflict with the Standard, then the instructions in the Standard should be applied.
