Containers that you can use in the microwave oven
Parchment paper Use to prevent splashes or to cover the food
while stewing.
Plastic Only the ones that are safe to use in micro-
waves. Always follow the manufacturer's
instructions. It should be marked as "Safe to
Use in Microwave". Some plastic containers
may get softer as the food in it gets warmer.
"Cooking bags" and tightly bound plastic bags
should be pierced as stated in the packaging.
Plastic packag-
ing
Only the ones that are safe to use in micro-
waves. Use to cover the food to maintain its
humidity during cooking. Do not allow the
plastic packaging material to contact with
the food.
Thermometers Only the ones that are safe to use in micro-
waves (meat and sugar thermometers).
Oil paper Use it as a cover to prevent splashes or main-
tain the humidity.
Containers that are unsuitable for microwave oven
Aluminum tray May cause sparks. Transfer the
food in a safe container within
the microwave.
Food carton with metal han-
dle
May cause sparks. Transfer the
food in a safe container within
the microwave.
Metal or metal-coated con-
tainers
Metal protects the food from
microwave energy. Metal plating
may cause sparks.
Metal threads May cause sparks and fire in the
oven.
Paper bags May cause fire in the oven.
