THE GHOST WAND
On the back of each candle holder, wedge two paper clips in between each candle and the holder on the right and left
hand side, they will stabilize the candles and let you attach the thread. Fasten the nylon thread to the paper clip on the
side of the candle to your left that faces inward (Image 2). Guide the thread loosely through both paper clips on the candle
to your right (Image 3). Place the candle holders with the candles at a short distance from each other on the table. Make
sure that there is plenty of give on the thread in the center so that it can hang down to the table, and that the viewers do
not see the paper clips. Now nd an assistant to help you, someone who the audience will not think is in on the trick. The
loose end of the thread must be long enough so that it can reach the place where your assistant has chosen to hide or sit.
Place the magic wand between the two candles on top of the nylon thread, which will be invisible to your audience (Image
4). When you say the magic words, your assistant should begin to pull on the free end of the nylon thread (Image 5). The
magic wand will move as though controlled by a ghostly hand!
THE MAGIC WAND TELLS THE TIME
Before performing this trick, draw the face of a clock on a piece of paper and cut it out (Image 1). Begin by explaining that
your magic wand possesses magic powers, and you will prove it. Ask an audience member to think of one of the hours
(1:00, 2:00, 3:00, etc.) shown on the clock face. Gently tap the head of your volunteer with the magic wand. Now set your
paper clock on the table and say to your volunteer and the audience: “Every time I tap the clock with my magic wand, you
(your volunteer) should add one to the number of the hour you are thinking of. When you reach 20 say ‘stop’.” You should
also count along silently every time you tap the clock. Once you have reached seven, point to the 12 with your wand. From
there, each time you tap the wand against the clock move it back by one hour until the volunteer says “stop.” When she
does say stop, your magic wand will be pointing at the hour that she had thought of.
THE TWISTED WAND APPEARS ENTIRE
For this trick, you will make a model of your magic wand out of black and white cardboard paper (Images 1 to 3). The
fake wand should look very similar to the magic wand. Shortly before you perform the trick, hide the real wand in your
shirt pocket. Show your audience the magic wand made of paper. Wrap it up in a piece of newspaper and crumple it up
(Images 4 to 7). Your viewers will think that your magic wand has disappeared in the newspaper. Now pull the real magic
wand out of your shirt pocket (Image 8) and hand it over to one of your audience members. At the same time, you should
casually get rid of the crumpled-up newspaper, so that your audience does not think of searching for the magic wand in
the newspaper.
A FLOATING WAND ON THE ARM
Before the show put a small ruler up the inner side of your left arm under the strap of your watch, covered by the sleeve
of your shirt. Take the magic wand in your left hand, pull out the ruler with your right hand and push the wand between
the ruler and your hand. Now when you stretch your ngers and you let your arm down, it seems that the magic wand is
oating under the palm of your hand. At the end of the performance, you must, of course, slide the ruler secretly up your
sleeve and keep it well hidden.
